alfie cam

will hopefully work...

ALFIE!!!!!!

so, erica and i have had alfie for almost a month now. he had a couple seizures this morning, which was kind of scary. and gross - his anal glands released some gnarly liquids on his bed and mine. i thought they might be cleared out from my assistance "expressing" them the other night, but i was wrong. so...time to update the blog with a ton of photos and do some laundry.

turns out alfie seems mostly basenji. which is pretty different, a bit like a mix with a kitty with regard to his attitude, though he's certainly not as independent around the house & still tracks erica & me around quite a bit. we're still working out the separation anxiety. fortunately, like all basenjis, alfie can't bark - he's just got a bit of a whining problem. when not whiny, he's usually sweet. like a little lamb.

but sometimes he can get a little mad. like when he wants to eat some elk.

alfie sleeping around the apartment:

and awake!

barely.

alfie's died and gone to heaven!

gettin ball on.

gettin big bone on.

big bone makes a lot of scraps, which once littered my floor when he mysteriously retrieved the bone and was of course unattended. big mess. it also smells really bad when alfie's played with it.

fortunately, he does a decent job of cleaning up the scraps.

so, after a week of ownership / parenthood, we took alfie on a trip to the san juans - it was a lot of fun. i was a proud papa.

first dog park!

good boy.

first hike!

first dip!

first boat! we rowed to a little island with a few cabins on it. we were a little anxious about him popping the boat / jumping into the water and getting away from us, so we kept him in the crate. he was not happy about it and later, he did a lot better out of the crate with a handful of treats to preoccupy him.

view from the cabin we stayed at:

first fire!

first bag!

first (record) crate!

deception pass - check out those waves!

one of the last photos this camera would ever take, before it took a dip in the puget sound... sad. i retrieved it for the photos of the weekend, and was pretty shocked by how cold the water was, especially when i had to dive in. i scraped myself up on the barnacles and then had to ascend back to the lot with wet boxers and bloody legs. good sight for the many tourists that seemed to show up out of nowhere.

alfie seems to have down well with water & even tolerates baths pretty well these days. back home, we recently brought him to a park at the sandy delta, the confluence of the sandy & the columbia rivers. we're hoping to take him tubing on the sandy this summer, when it's hopefully a little less windy. oh, and you can just make out mt. hood in the background.

on the topic of tubing - beer! going to happy hour...

lovin sum beer.

lovin sum bone too.

bored of bone.

any other goodies?

yes. burritos. soyrizo. pastor. yum.

really yum.
